Living on a flower farm is so different than living with my garden…

Never before have I felt more that I live on an urban flower farm as opposed to a garden. Except, you know me, it’s always about living with the ‘and’.

If I lived in a garden I would wait until a bloom was fully there, fully open, fully fragrant and then enjoy it, probably photograph it and then cut it back only after it was really over.

Living on a flower farm with large events weeks away, a new market that I am bringing my flowers to along with my cyanotypes (the Oak Bay Night Market on June 12th ) and some other smaller events….everything that is starting to bloom, or even thinking of blooming is cut and whisked away into one of the little tiny fridges in my flower studio. In other words, if you were to look over my fence you might wonder how many flowers does she actually have given that you can only see green….

And.

The balance? So that I don’t miss living in a garden, that I don’t miss the experience I provide for my family of living in a really interesting garden?

I’m leaving some things..this week it is some of the roses…the thorns are really crazy, so sharing them in bouquets- not great. I did cut this single rose which is in this silver cup next to me as I write this to you…the scent is deliciously of the season…the family loves it-

Having said this – there are flowers that are at their best now, so

I am offering a limited number of 4 week flower subscriptions.

I know that people love coming to the garden gate and opening it after 2 o’clock on their pick up day to see their name (or their friend’s name if it is a gift- as so many are) on the brown paper wrapping.

I hope that wherever you are, you are enjoying some of the beautiful flowers growing near you!

I wish you peace on your path today,

Lise-Lotte
