I just came back from a show at my friend Malene’s home where she held a show with her work, a clothing designer, a knitter ( who also raised the sheep, and spun wool to buy), another potter, and a weaver. A cedar wreath I made for her was on the front door (with cards inside in case people would like to request a wreath of their own).
This is my new Malene vase to go with the beautiful and functional pieces that @malenefoyd made.
It’s something that I love about true artists is that creativity is always changing, evolving, pivoting and never ever compromising, but resulting from an artist’s experimentation and curiosity.
I consider it such a privilege to be able to buy directly from artists. It’s such an outdated idea that we support artists in their creative endeavours. I believe it is actually completely opposite of that. That we can be grateful that artists make the things that we use everyday. In this case I enjoy the feeling of the glaze, and how the diameter of the cup works perfectly in my hand, knowing it is one of a kind and the others like it are ever so slightly different. It is in fact this cup that is mine.
