Starting the year with a Quick Win

I don’t know if you ever had this happen to you— as a child your space was cleared and things found homes and then you really wanted to play in that space.

Well at age 58, I still seem to have that experience.

Except Mom hasn’t been along for such a long time now to support me in tidying my own space.

Change happens when you wake up one day and decide that the current situation just doesn’t work anymore.

Changes continue when you start to feel momentum.

That’s where I am – for the last couple of weeks, I have been examining the last year and clearing out spaces– starting with books, now onto fabric.

the start.
I put my favourite quilting cottons together
the deliciousness of linen
some flannel and more linen
I came across a quilt that I had started and had wanted to come back to — and I was surprised at how much prep I had already done. Originally I had planned to make a queen size quilt, but I have changed my mind and thought I would make a lap quilt – it will be cosy to sit under while writing to you or knitting.
Under the better late than never column, I went for my flu/covid vaccine and treated myself to these two macarons to enjoy with tea. I made this little bowl with three little legs a couple of years ago.
There are colours that I had made from before that really don’t work in this project, so I will bundle them together and make something smaller– or I’ll give them away- I haven’t decided yet
it gets dark so early still—we’ve had tons of rain and so this is a cosy project to do listening to podcasts and the rain
With my constant companion Lilly coming in to check on the final progress

The sun has come out and I am going to send this up island to get quilted with a long arm machine and a talented quilter.

I am very excited. I also found another full quilt- you just never know – so I will send both. It will take some weeks ( maybe 10 weeks because there is a long line ahead of mine– I don’t mind the wait because I knew what an amazing job Lynne from Kismet Quilts, in Port Alberni did last time.

By the way, this Danish flag pattern that I made for my friend with her favourite colours (it was a surprise) is what I posted this week as my not-to-subtle political statement regarding where I stand with Greenland, Denmark and us here in Canada. ‘Nuff said. I made the pattern and the quilt.

Are you in momentum or clearing and deciding what belongs in your 2026?

I wish you peace on your path,
