It will bloom

I dreamed of having this peony years ago.

A few years ago,  friends all brought me peonies for my birthday. They brought all different kinds- it wasn’t planned…they just all did.

What could be better.

That’s when I fell in love with this peony. Although like having multiple children, you can have endless love for each of them.

I remember wondering when I had one child and I was pregnant with the next, could I love them as much as I did the first. And then when I was lighting a candle with another candle- it occurred to me that that flame was like my love for her- so yes. Yes I could.

This is how I feel about flowers…endless love for each one I meet that I love…

But that isn’t why I wrote to you.

What I wanted to say is really a reminder that helps me.

When you look at this Beauty, this “final product” know that it doesn’t just show up today.

Today is when I am showing you this picture, but I found this kind of peony a few years ago, planted it in my garden and now is when I discovered the bloom.

So if there is something that you want to plant, literally or figuratively, it will take time. But given the right conditions, and your intention to actually plant it, water it, weed around it …. It will bloom.

It may surprise you at the end of a long day in the garden when you are very tired, it’s getting dark, your knees are sore and all you can see is what you haven’t yet done…..and then the last light hits it in a certain way and under the pear tree amongst the long grass that you are considering cutting and pressing for cyanotype, but haven’t yet because that bed hasn’t even made it onto your long list yet…and there she is ….the perfect time to cut, before she has opened – so you take her inside and choose a vase that you bought last year in Skagen and you place her next to an old favourite…aahh the scent…and you photograph her so as to try to stop time, just for a moment… because although it was a long time to wait, the Beauty itself is fleeting… and you want to remember until next year, if you are lucky, when she might surprise you again…

If there’s something you want in your life, today’s a good day to start.

I wish you peace on your path,
