This is my life at the moment. I’m not sure that I ever thought about life at 57, but today’s the day I find out.
I have always been fortunate in my life to travel through my days with love, laughter, light and yes, I also include loss. Because these are my travelling companions. Do I wish the last one didn’t slip into my suitcase, yes, yes I do. But it’s here. It’s life. It’s my life. I am grateful for all of it.
My mom used to say that everyday is Mother’s Day when we would make something special of that day.
So while today is my birthday and my family and friends have made it a special time for me in the last days. It is like each and every day. I wake up in peace, I greet Lilly and give her a pat on her soft fur on her head and behind her ears, I enjoy my earl grey tea. I open the greenhouse and hoop house and notice the scent of what’s blooming and growing inside. I hear the birds and today felt the sun on my face.
I get to work on and in a business I have created from scratch on something I have big plans and even bigger dreams for.
I am looking forward to a summer ahead with places known and exploring places that are new to me with the ones I love the most.
I have the experience of the wondering how things will turn out, the worry for friends who are not well, the stress of entrepreneurship, the fear for a world where people have forgotten how to see each other’s humanity.
And then there is YOU. The one who reads me here. Comments and shares in response to conversations I start here. I get to learn from you. Sometimes I get to meet you or see you in workshops or at markets. I appreciate you. I am grateful to learn from you, feel inspired by you, know your kindness.
I have a birthday wish: it is that wherever you are today, whatever time it is as you are reading this- that you can smell a flower – the kind that only bloom at this time of year- perhaps in a garden near you, or on a walk … that you enjoy it and it brings you a moment of joy.
Here’s to a lifetime of moments, lived in gratitude for the peace within and without.
