What is your relationship to Creativity?

“What is your relationship to knitting?”

This was the question that was asked as we went around the circle of 15 knitters and 2 teachers and an eleven year old niece/granddaughter to the teachers in the Salish Fusion Knitting Retreat on Saturna Island I attended this past weekend. This morning, I realized that it is a way of asking a question that I used in this post last week about the topic of comparison.

This question got me to thinking..

I am always thinking about my membership: Gathering Experiences that are Meaningful.

The lovely women who are GEM’s are all creative in very different ways and at various points on the path… some closer, some farther away from the creativity they wish to have in their life.

I’m so curious….What is YOUR relationship to creativity?

I’ll start…I practice some form of creativity every day. It comes in many forms—from problem solving in my business, working with textiles, storytelling, painting, flower arranging, writing, photographing, and making new things….

Sometimes I have found that it is in “the doing” of “the thing” that my hands are busy and my subconscious mind has the space it needs to work away on a way of knowing that I would not otherwise have access to.

For me creativity is something that has brought me closer to wonderful people and having the kinds of conversations that are without pretence and cover wide ranging and interesting topics, and are often joy full.

I learn different perspectives on life and events as I love listening to stories.

Creativity has connected me to myself.

It has grounded me in my experience of place and time.

It has led me to understanding the world in a nuanced way.

Creativity is both completely personal and perhaps in that way- universal.

My understanding of my relationship to creativity is evolving— far from static. Perhaps that is its appeal—because as a result of living a curious, open-minded and therefore creative life…I am open all kinds of things to explore from Everyday Beauty, to the work of artists, children, creatives of all sorts… and my curiosity propels me forward trying new things. Sometimes surprising myself in the process.

What is your relationship to Creativity?

I would love to know in a few words, a sentence or more…

I will do another draw for my cyanotype print Financial Planning. I can send it anywhere in the world.

In the meantime, if you celebrate Easter, I hope you have a wonderful Easter long weekend. The weather is supposed to be sunny this weekend- which will mean that the family egg hunt will be amongst the spring flowers that have started to bloom.

I wish you peace on your path today.
