When you believe that creativity comes from the individual’s unique experience and that it is available to all of us, there is no room for competition.
I believe that.
As a result I live in a place of abundance and sharing rather than worrying if someone is going to steel my ideas.
It has been my experience that ideas keep coming along— the more I lead a creative life, the more ideas flow forth.
I am led by curiosity rather than comparison.
I’m lucky to live in a community of women who share this world view.
I’m so happy that I met Charlotte – a wonderful British florist and creative who has become a dear friend.
Over tea in the garden a few weeks ago, we started talking about creating something and at the same time in the conversation, in answer to the what we both saw creating, we said out loud…an experience!
Which brings me to the present – where the family members have helped me widen my garden paths by moving plants, moving huge plant pots to the middle of beds and adding chip. Some have been up a ladder hanging the wonderful warm white strings of lights that now highlight gathering places and the paths and make it magic in this little urban flower farm under the stars.
Recently I heard a definition of gratitude from Eckhart Tolle where he said gratitude is what you experience in the moment. That is certainly what I felt the other night in the middle of my garden, under a starry sky, with the air so still and quiet.
Gratitude for my health that I could work this hard to make a vision happen- grateful for the chance to do this with my friend Charlotte, grateful for amazing fellow artists who would partner as vendors with their creative energy and beautiful things they have made and grateful, as always, for my family’s support in action.
In that reflection, I also thought that it’s only possible if one starts with an openness. An openness to be creative in collaboration with others.
I think it takes a kind of confidence to let go of every detail, every little way one would do it oneself. Because when you do- you come to see that creative collaboration is not a 1 + 1 =2 kind of scenario. It is a 1+1=infinite possibilities.
That’s creativity, that’s a successful creative life. That’s what’s behind our Evening in the Garden – Yuletide Market. Connection through Creativity.
I wish you peace on your path,
Lise-Lotte
