A few weeks ago, I was in an on-line class where I was chatting with a piano teacher… she asked what my membership is about after I told her, she said- Creativity it’s everything, vague-what do you mean by it? So it got me thinking and I have been thinking about it ever since.
Creativity. Surely it’s: a. thing.– I’m working on this definition based on what I am listening to, what I have read, learned in courses and conversations, and what rings true for me after a life time of being a creative.
Creativity is a way of seeing the world that hasn’t been seen that way before because it is seen through the eyes of each unique individual. It is a way of living a life of wonder because one follows her curiosity in the pursuit of learning more (perhaps in looking at the world through other’s eyes -empathy). Eventually one comes to an understanding of something that you as the individual could never have imagined at the outset. Sometimes this results in the making of something, but it doesn’t have to.
To “achieve” this creative outcome, one flourishes when there is an ability to feel safe enough to take risks. One cannot be attached to any single way of knowing because one identifies as a learner. In other words, you can make “mistakes” in paint colour and it doesn’t say anything about you as a person because it is all seen as an experiment.
In order to be a creative person it helps if you are open-minded to all the possibilities especially if they have never been done before, a person who notices, a problem solver who can be playful.
I would LOVE to know what you think… what is missing here?
What could be added?
Would you change something?
What’s your relationship with creativity?
I’m curious!
By the way, this is picture is taken at the Perfume Museum on Grasse France this past summer…a fascinating example of creativity in so many forms!
I wish you peace on your path,
